Honda Monkey vs. Honda Grom: Which is Better for You?
Which is Better - The Honda Monkey or The Honda Grom?
If you’re in the market for a mini motorbike, you’re likely to run into two of the great options from Honda: the Honda Monkey and the Honda Grom.
Luckily for you, we have both Honda models in our new powersports vehicles inventory, as well as a brief breakdown of each. Beaverton Motorcycles invites you to dive into the Honda Monkey vs. Honda Grom: which is better for you?
Honda Monkey
The Honda Monkey is a model that’s full of rich history, stemming from the Honda Z series. The Honda Z50 was a street-legal mini-bike with a 49cc engine, five-inch wheels and was nicknamed the Honda Monkey back in the late 1960s.
The latest iteration of the Monkey calls back to its roots with a retro-inspired design to go with a 125cc engine and a dual-shock rear suspension. The Monkey comes in two colors: Pearl Nebula Red and Pearl Glittering Blue, and also comes in an ABS version as well.
Complete with a four-speed transmission and LED taillight, the Monkey is the perfect compact motorbike to get around on.
Honda Grom
The Honda Grom was first introduced in 2014 and is actually very similar to its Monkey counterpart. The Grom features the same 125cc engine, has a similar lightweight and approachable form factor, and also has an available ABS trim level option.
According to Motorcyclist, the Grom was more than capable of overtaking cars in the city with its top speed of 56 mph. However, USA Today found that the small engine and top speed makes it unsuited for highways, if not legitimately illegal in certain areas.
With economic efficiency and controllable-yet-thrilling speed, the Grom makes for a great introduction for those just getting into motorcycling and powersports.
The Grom features four available colors, two more than the Monkey: Cherry Red, Blue Raspberry, Halloween Orange and Incredible Green. If you need your bike to be orange or green, then the Grom is definitely your pick out of the two.
Honda Monkey vs Honda Grom: Price & Weight
All in all, the Honda Monkey and Honda Grom are very similar bikes. Both are in the same price range, though the Grom is slightly less expensive than the $3,999 starting price of the Monkey, at $3,399. The Monkey weighs slightly more (232 lbs) than the Grom (229 lbs) as well.
The Monkey seems to be a slightly smaller version of the Grom, with a lot of the same elements and attributes, though the size disparity isn’t drastically different.
The choice between the Monkey and the Grom may very well come down to your own preference, whether it be the overall design, color availability, or starting price point. Both bikes are excellent models, and you’re sure to get your value out of either one.
